How to Use

  1. Shake the ready-to-use spray before application.
  2. Apply evenly across the coat before turnout, riding, hacking or daily summer management.
  3. Pay particular attention to areas where flies commonly gather.
  4. Reapply as required based on weather conditions, turnout duration and fly pressure.
  5. When your ready-to-use bottle begins running low, mix 100ml of Citronella+ Concentrate with 900ml of water.
  6. Shake thoroughly until fully dispersed.
  7. Transfer to a suitable spray bottle if required.
  8. Use in exactly the same way as the ready-to-use spray.

Top Tip: Many owners prepare their refill bottle before they need it so fresh fly spray is always available during periods of heavy fly activity.

Summer Management Tip: Regular grooming and occasional washing help remove sweat, grease and seasonal build-up that can accumulate on the coat throughout fly season.

Ingredients

Citronella has been used in horse fly-care products for generations and remains one of the most recognised ingredients associated with fly-season horse management. Its distinctive aroma forms the foundation of the Citronella+ scent profile.

Eucalyptus contributes to the fresh botanical character of the formula whilst complementing the wider aromatic blend.

Aromatic Isolates help strengthen and support the overall scent profile, creating a more rounded and robust aromatic system than citronella alone.

Advanced Scent-Fixative Technology is one of the key features that makes Citronella+ different. Many fly sprays smell strong immediately after application before rapidly fading. The fixative system helps slow scent evaporation and supports a longer-lasting aromatic profile on the coat.

Mild Coat Conditioners help support coat appearance during regular use, making Citronella+ suitable for daily grooming and fly-season management.

The real advantage of this bundle is convenience. The ready-to-use bottle keeps you protected today, whilst the concentrate ensures you always have more fly spray available tomorrow.

FAQ

Why is my horse still covered in flies after using fly spray?

One of the biggest reasons is application frequency and coat condition. Sweat, grease, dust and environmental build-up can reduce how evenly fly-care products spread across the coat. Many owners also underestimate how dramatically fly pressure changes throughout the day, particularly during warm, still weather.

Why do flies seem worse around my horse's belly, sheath and udder?

These areas are often warmer, more sheltered and prone to collecting sweat and moisture. Many horse owners notice increased fly activity around the belly line, sheath, udders and lower body during peak fly season.

Why does my horse stamp constantly during summer?

Repeated stamping is one of the most common behaviours associated with fly irritation. Horses often stamp to dislodge flies gathering around the legs, heels and lower limbs. Increased stamping is frequently reported during periods of heavy fly activity.

Why does my horse keep rubbing its mane and tail?

Seasonal mane rubbing and tail rubbing are commonly reported during periods of increased fly and midge activity. Many owners notice rubbing becomes significantly worse during warmer weather, particularly around dawn and dusk when midge activity can increase.

What is sweet itch and why is fly management important?

Sweet itch is commonly associated with a hypersensitivity to midge bites. Whilst no fly-care routine can eliminate every challenge associated with sweet itch, many owners consider fly and midge management one of the most important parts of their overall summer care programme.

Why do some horses attract more flies than others?

Natural skin oils, sweat production, coat condition, environment and individual horse chemistry can all influence how attractive a horse becomes to flies and midges. It is very common for one horse in a field to attract noticeably more fly attention than others.

How often should I apply fly spray to my horse?

This depends on weather conditions, turnout time, exercise levels and fly pressure. Horses living out full time during peak summer conditions often require more frequent application than horses spending time stabled or in sheltered environments.

Can sweating reduce fly spray performance?

Many owners find that heavy sweating can reduce the longevity of fly-care products. This is one reason regular grooming and occasional washing remain important parts of summer horse management.

Why does Citronella+ contain a scent-fixative system?

Many traditional fly sprays lose their scent profile surprisingly quickly after application. Citronella+ includes a scent-fixative system designed to help slow fragrance evaporation and maintain its aromatic profile for longer during normal use.

Why buy concentrate as well as ready-to-use spray?

Most horse owners underestimate how much fly spray they use during peak fly season. The concentrate ensures you always have more available when the main bottle runs low, making it particularly useful for owners with multiple horses, horses living out or horses requiring frequent application.

What's the difference between flies and midges?

Horse flies, stable flies and midges all behave differently. Midges are particularly associated with seasonal itching and sweet itch challenges, whilst larger flies are more commonly linked with stamping, tail swishing and general irritation.

What else should I use alongside Citronella+ during fly season?

Many owners combine Citronella+ with Goodbye Itch Oil for horses prone to seasonal itching, mane rubbing and tail rubbing. Together they form part of a broader summer skin and fly management routine.

Citronella+ Horse Fly Spray Bundle combines a full-size Citronella+ Ready To Use Fly Spray with a 100ml bottle of Citronella+ Concentrate, giving horse owners up to 1 litre of additional fly spray from a compact refill bottle. Designed for horse owners who get through fly spray quickly during spring and summer, this bundle provides both immediate use and a convenient top-up when the original bottle starts running low.

If you've owned horses through a bad fly season, you'll know how quickly fly spray disappears. One horse becomes two. One application becomes three. A warm week suddenly turns into a month of constant spraying, and before long you're ordering another bottle.

That's exactly why we created this bundle.

You receive a ready-to-use bottle for immediate application alongside a concentrated refill that can be mixed whenever you need it. Simply add 100ml of Citronella+ Concentrate to 900ml of water to create a fresh litre of ready-to-use fly spray.

Unlike many concentrates that need using immediately after dilution, Citronella+ has been formulated to remain stable once mixed, allowing horse owners to prepare fresh spray in advance and keep it ready for everyday use.

Both products are built around the same proven Citronella+ formula, combining citronella, eucalyptus, carefully selected aromatic isolates and our advanced scent-fixative system. Whilst many fly sprays smell strong immediately after application before fading rapidly, Citronella+ has been developed to help maintain its fresh aromatic profile for longer.

This is particularly important during the height of fly season when horses are sweating more, spending longer periods turned out and facing constant exposure to flies, midges and other seasonal irritants.

Fly season can affect horses in many different ways. Tail swishing, stamping, skin twitching, pacing, head shaking, rubbing and general irritation are all behaviours commonly seen when fly pressure increases. Many owners also find that horses prone to seasonal itching become increasingly uncomfortable as midge activity rises.

For horses prone to sweet itch, mane rubbing or tail rubbing, many owners combine Citronella+ with Goodbye Itch Oil as part of a broader summer management programme.

Whether you're managing one horse or several, preparing for competition season, supporting horses living out or simply looking for a practical way to keep fly spray available throughout the summer, Citronella+ Horse Fly Spray Bundle delivers excellent value whilst ensuring you're never caught without fly spray when you need it most.
