Why is my dog acting tired after a bite wound?

Overview
A dog can seem tired after a bite wound for a few common reasons, including pain, shock, stress, swelling, or the wound starting to become sore or inflamed. Sometimes they just want to rest after the upset of being bitten, but tiredness can also be an early sign that the wound needs closer attention.
Things To Check
1. Check whether your dog is sleeping more than usual, moving slowly, or seeming reluctant to get up, walk or play.
2. Look closely at the bite area for redness, swelling, heat, broken skin, bruising, discharge or an unpleasant smell.
3. See whether your dog is licking, biting or guarding the area, which can suggest soreness.
4. Check if the wound is on the face, neck, leg, paw or another area that may be harder to see properly.
5. Notice whether your dog is eating and drinking normally, because reduced appetite can go along with pain or feeling unwell.
6. Watch for shaking, panting, whining or seeming unsettled, as these can go with discomfort.
7. Check if the tiredness started soon after the bite or has become worse over time.
Common Causes
The most common reason is pain from the wound itself, even if the bite looks small on the outside. Dog bite wounds can also be sore beneath the skin, where bruising and tissue damage are harder to spot.
Stress and shock after a frightening incident can make some dogs quiet and tired for a while. They may want to lie down, keep still and avoid normal activity.
Swelling or inflammation around the bite can make your dog feel generally under the weather. If bacteria get into the wound, tiredness can be one of the first signs that it is becoming infected.
Less commonly, a deeper wound, abscess or more significant injury may be affecting how your dog feels overall, especially if there is marked swelling, heat or ongoing discomfort.
What To Do
Keep your dog calm and stop them from licking or scratching the area. If the skin is broken, gently check the wound once in good light so you can see whether it looks clean, swollen or wet.
Limit exercise for now and keep your dog rested. If the area is dirty, you can gently clean around it with cooled boiled water or saline, but avoid scrubbing or using harsh products unless your vet has told you otherwise.
Monitor your dog closely over the next 24 hours. If they are brightening up, eating, and the wound looks settled, that is reassuring. If the tiredness is lingering, or the wound looks worse rather than better, speak to your vet for advice.
